MURDOCH University Melville (MUM) have returned to the winners’ circle with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Curtin University FC at Edinburgh Oval.

Early strikes to Anthony Lomma and Josip Vujica gave the visitors an early lead, before a late brace from Daniel Davey sealed the result.

The win moved MUM up to 3rd in State League Division Two after the opening six games, five points off the top two, Quinns FC and Gosnells City.

482795MFThe away sidestarted brightly and were rewarded when Curtin failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Lomma, who smashed home from close range.

Not even 10 minutes had passed when MUM doubled their advantage through Vujica, who reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and beat the ‘keeper at his near post.

They had a golden chance to make it 3-0 when the referee adjudged Scott Campbell’s shot was blocked by a Curtin defenders arm and pointed to the spot, but Mark Lucas’ penalty clipped the bar and flew over.

Lucas hit the post soon after from close range as Curtin held on by a thread and found themselves somewhat fortunate to onlybe 2-0 down at the break.

Antony Russo almost dragged the hosts back into the game when the ball fell to him at the back post, but he was denied by the woodwork.

Curtin worked their way back into the contest, but their good work was undone when Adam Mangion brought the ball out of defence and combined well with Grant Mowatt, whose through ball was finished by Davey.

The young winger doubled his tally for the day soon after, when Lomma latched onto a ball in behind the defence and unselfishly set up Davey to waltz into an open goal.

In other results, MUM’s Reserve’s side made it five wins from six to start the season as Jacob Guarino and Shakeel Alexander fired them to a 2-1 win over their Curtin counterparts, while MUM’s 18’s triumphed 4-1.
